TransRockies Run feedback from Trey Woods

Here is a note from Trey Woods who competed in the TransRockies Run with Donald Rice as Team Salomon/Backwoods…

I would like to thank Backwoods and Salomon for the the opportunity of a lifetime. Running in the TransRockies was truly an enlightening experience.

As I am bogged down with work and the grind of every day life, the goal of running every day for a certain amount of mileage and climbing two to four thousand feet a day truly put life into perspective. I feel as if I have won the lottery. I had the opportunity to run across the Rocky Mountains with one of my best friends and experience some of the most beautiful scenery I have ever seen. I do not know how to put into words what Donald and I experienced over our six day journey.

We had our ups and downs, literally. But, what I am truly proud of is that we ran together as a team. When we struggled, we were able to push each other to accomplish a goal that we were not sure that we could achieve, which was to finish this race to the best of our ability. I have had the good fortune of running many ultras with Donald and I cannot think of a better person to attempt to run this race with.

Donald and I have a keen sense of how each other is feeling during a 20 mile run and know how to motivate one another when one of us is struggling. Therefore, I believe we had an advantage over many of the other competitors because we truly enjoy the challenges of finishing a grueling, tough run together.

As far as the logistics are concerned, I really did not worry to much about anything accept running 20 plus miles a day and getting enough food and liquids in my system. You really have to have a simplistic approach when running 113 miles over 6 days. All that matters during this week long running vacation is how you deal with the stress of running 20+ miles a day and how your body is going to react to climbing and descending over 4000 feet a day. Donald and I held up relatively well and actually got stronger as the race went on. We had our best overall finish on the last day.

In conclusion I would like to say thank you to Backwoods and Salomon for giving Donald and I this opportunity to run in this epic race. Everyone involved with the TransRockies was unbelievably super cool. (I sound like a teenager) But I really enjoyed the opportunity to hang out and meet so many laid back people who were trying to accomplish one simple goal, which was to get from Buena Vista to Beaver Creek as fast as their legs would take them.

And thanks to Donald for entering our team into this contest and giving my family and I the vacation of a lifetime. If you ever need another team to represent Backwoods in another race, Donald and I would be honored to represent your fine company.

Thanks,

Trey Woods
